NEW DELHI: Candidates from 41 centres across 29 cities and 17 States/ UTs were sent back on Thursday as the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) was postponed due to technical glitches. The glitches were more widespread in the afternoon slot forcing the National Testing Agency (NTA) to cancel the entire second shift exam across over 400 centres as the general test paper didn’t get uploaded on the screen.

The agency in the evening announced that the postponed exams will be conducted on August 12, while the second shift cancelled exams will be from August 12 to 14, 2022.

The second phase of the undergraduate admission test commenced on Thursday. The first phase, which was conducted between July 15-20, too was plagued by technical issues. While NTA has been issuing the admit cards just four to five days ahead of the exam, here too candidates are in panic and took to social media as the agency is yet to issue the admit cards for August 7 exams.

“Due to various administrative and technical reasons, the CUET (UG)–2022 scheduled for August 4 (first shift) has been postponed to August 12 for a few examination centres in 17 states,” said Sadhana Parashar, senior director, NTA.

However, with the NTA cancelling the entire second slot exam of the day, for the above 41 centres the entire exam stands cancelled.

NTA in its notification stated that “Reports were asked from the observers/ city coordinators on ground. Based on their recommendations, the second shift scheduled for August 4, 2022 (Shift 2) (from 3pm to 6 pm) is cancelled and the same will now be conducted between August 12 to 14, 2022.”

“Further, because of technical reasons, the question paper for the second shift of the examination could only be uploaded at 5 pm and the download at 489 centres could start at 5.25pm, while the exam was scheduled to begin from 3pm,” said Parashar.

Candidates also are unhappy with the last minute changes upsetting their plans. Arpit, a candidate said: “My CUET exam which was scheduled on August 4 but when I reached my exam centre teachers there told me that the exam got cancelled today and is scheduled on August 12. Also they have changed my examination date from August 5 to August 4 without any official intimation.”

In Tamil Nadu the August 4 exams were postponed in five cities, while it is four cities each in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Exams were postponed in two cities each in Arunachal Pradesh (Namsai and Pasighat) and Uttar Pradesh (Noida and Varanasi).

However, candidates claim that centres in cities like Sultanpur and a few others also faced similar technical glitch.

Mudit Pratap Singh, a candidate from a centre in Sultanpur, UP tweeted, “along with me 50-60 students were unable to complete their exam, computer screen not showing questions and options, my exam centre. But NTA has mentioned only two cities in UP in their notice. So disgusting. Along with Sultanpur district, few other districts also face the same problem.”

According to NTA, the same admit card will be valid for the candidates whose examinations have been postponed. However, if August 12 to 14, 2022 is not suitable for any candidate, the agency has asked them to send an email mentioning their desired date and roll number.

The NTA is conducting CUET (UG) – 2022 from July 15 to August 20 (excluding the days of other undergraduate examinations, and gazetted holidays) at 489 centres located in approximately 259 cities across India and nine cities outside India.
